Hi,
does anyone know if the router has to be actually be connected to a computer or not by a wire? Can all the computers be connected by a wireless adapter? leaving the router on its own near the phone socket?!?
Please help!
Thanks

A wired connection for the administrator PC is recommended because if the connection fails you will need a means to get into the router interface to check/change the configuration, read logs, troubleshoot, etc.
Can it be connected wirelessly after configuration, yes but you assume some risks.
I connect to routers with a notebook (wired) for admin sometimes.
I agree 100%...having at least one wired machine means you can downgrade from the extra large industrial sized bottle of Tylenol to a much smaller consumer version.
All joking aside, it is much easier to deal with if you keep a wired connection. The past month would have been totally unbearable had I not done that at my in-laws. By the time I finsihed over there, we left the wireless for the laptops only and put both desktops on wired ports. There is something about that house that makes a 2.4 Ghz wireless connection iffy at best. I'm not sure what the problem is but it was a constant battle to keep the network on a channel that worked...I believe that at least one of the other 2.4 GHz devices in the house is a 'channel seeker' and would end up on what ever channel used for the network.
Dealing with something like that would be nearly impossible without a wired connection to make the channel change on the router.
What usually works best is to keep the machine closest to the incoming line the wired one, that way all the cable runs should be fairly short and tidy.
Sounds Like a Ma Bell cordless (2,4G) phone.
Constant click Like the firing of a motor
But it works both ways
The phone in the area will sound like it is hooked to a car distributor also :)
The Micro wave likes to add to the fun as well
