Might seem simple

the problem on my PC is this: everytime i log on to windows XP, my documents folder opens as if it were a boot up program. i've looked around and try to look if there might be a shortcut of the folder on the startup folder of windows but can't seem to find the problem, i've also tried looking it up in the msconfig just in case it would show up in there but nothing... i don't know what else to do, if you guys know how to solve this, please let me know, i'd appreciate it.

We need a closer look at what's happening.
Please download http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip
Copy it into its own folder, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan and save log".

When the scan is finished, the log will open in Notepad. Do Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents here. Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

I remember a similar [but different] problem that may relate...

At bootup, when Windows loaded and ran, a window would be open displaying the contents of a folder [System32 I think].
Happened because the Windows "Path" was corrupted...
So a Windows System32 file that was to be run could not be found as it normally would and, for some reason I don't understand, Windows opened the folder that it "knew" held the file.

Like it was saying...
There's a setting in the registry telling me to load a file in this folder, but I cannot find the file; kindly run it yourself.

Solution?
Probably to repair to, or restore, good configuration files.

Did you also check the "All users" startup menu as well as your own profile???

Happened to me some time ago, used to get "My Network Places" opening on login...my startup folder was empty, but the all users one was the culprit!!...

That was in the bad old days when the kids were allowed within 20 feet of the PC etc.. :D :D
