I used to have DSL through qwest. I moved to a rural area and can only get dial up. I rented an external dsl modem through qwest. Before dsl I originally had dial up. Now when I try to set up a new connection I cannot select dial up. It is not highlighted only the dsl selection. ISP says I need to reconfigure my modem? Please help?

Windows XP
You will probably have to run the New Connection Wizard....
By clicking Start, clicking Programs or All Programs, clicking Accessories, clicking Communications, and then clicking New Connection Wizard.

I go through the new connection wizard. I choose connect to the internet, then set up my connection manually, then I get to Internet connection, where it asks how I want to connect. There are three options. The first two are not available to select only the third which is broad band. How do I correct this? I want to select the first one which is connect using a dial up modem, but it is shaded gray and won't let me select it. That is the problem I am having.
Your dial up modem is still installed, right?
If not you'll need to reinstall it first.

Yes it is still installed. I had an external DSL modem from Qwest, but I do not recall doing anything with the dial up modem when I had DSL. I have done all of the checks on the modem and it says that is enabled, no conflicts, and pretty much no problems.
Other than the wizard is not picking it up...
Have you removed the connection for the DSL?
Internal or external modem?
Since you said the checks say the modem works...the modem is installed properly and working, I guess that means you can access it through Device Manager...have you tried HyperTerminal?
Does the old connection show up under Network Connections?
If so, you should be able to change it by right clicking on the icon and selecting Properties.
Did Qwest have you install any special software? If so, have you uninstalled it?
