Whyzman, (and anyone else interested), I found the drive and inserted it in an extra computer with no drive and booted it up. Windows 95, and there was teh uninstall/add programs menu: Uninstall Windows 95, (3.x!).
I formatted it and installed 98SE a while ago. Just got the chance to switch my sister's computer's monitor's port from VGA to DVI and I put the VGA to my old pc. Word 2002, firefox, aim, iPod managing software for 98, CD writing software, old windows games, what else could you want? Oh...a sound card... :p

I remember the first 1.2GB drive I had anything to do with - it was part of my father's new computer, and cost $500!!!
About a month ago, I bought 5x 4.3GB drives for $30, and 1.2GB drives generally sell these days for $5 or less!
...even perfectly good ones, with no bad sectors...
Unfortunately, they are obsolete these days, with WinXP needing over a gig to install.
I still have some very old 120MB and 540MB drives(still perfect with no bad sectors), but no-one wants them, and you can't even GIVE them away...

I ever seen 2.0GB on my customer's pc, at the moment I felt quite funny and something like kidding me when I check its system properties. Because it's seldom and rare to see those pc in this decad. Sorry if I did say something you all don't like. You know, I didn't mean so... :)

You know, technically, you don't need a hard drive to make a computer fully functional! :p
Hard drive size has increased exponentially, and it's pretty sad what we all used to have back in the day. These days, you can buy 250GB SATA 300 hard drives for less than $100. On the 2.5" side of things, 80GB 5400rpm for less than $100. And of course you can buy 2GB flash drives that put those old 2GB hard drives to shame. Just amazing, isn't it?
I've got a couple of hundred MB drive sitting here on my shelf, that in its day, was a top of the line unit and cost a couple of hundred $$...about $1 an MB...now prices are much less than a $1 a GB, in some cases about $0.30 a GB....

I've seen 540mb hard drives around, but they're like larger than 3.5"
Note that my Windows 98SE is registered to Chuck Norris. :p

I had alot a few yrs ago, went out with a spring cleanup one year, anything from 500Mb to around 10Gb got the boot, along with a bunch if slow poke Western Digital protege 20Gb drives that did nothing but make alot of noise (prolly bearings or something, they were horrible for that) and take 9yrs to seek.

My first pc about 9 years ago was a clocked 486 with 500MB HDD with Win95 & Office 95 it worked well & got me interested in PC's. Cost £40 and was a bargain.
