Does anyone have or know much about this card?

I'm thinking of using it with an AMD athlon 1.3 and a abit KT7A-raid M/B.

Should go alright shouldn't it?

Does anyone recommend another card for roughly the same $$ ?

Go for the highest specced Geforce2 card you can afford . The Viper II is a couple of years old now . Your CPU is very fast and the Viper will only slow it down .

Here is the summary of a review on the card :
"S3 is making progress in leaps and bounds, but they are still being dragged down by a certain degree of unreliability. To better understand the concept we turn to the infamous automobile analogy.

If you were in the market for a new car, and the one that took your fancy didn't quite have a functional air conditioning although you were paying for one, would you still buy the car? S3 claims T&L isn't a big deal yet, but they advertise their support for it.

Basically, if all you want to do is play Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament, the Viper II will hold some appeal. If you do anything else, you may be waiting indefinitely for the driver support most people expect out of the box. We also had good experiences with Half-Life, but with the 3D Mark 2000 issues, it still seems questionable as to which applications will work out of the box.

The Viper II has a lot of potential to be a great product, but we still don't feel it is complete. It will be interesting to see if S3 is able to deliver on the drivers that will enable the full functionality of the card in a timely manner. If so, the upcoming Viper II LE Z400 may be something to consider more seriously. "

For the full review . You will notice that the Viper keeps up with the other cards (themselves fairly old now) in the lower resolutions but begins to fall behind as the resolution gets higher .
Also take note that the Viper is seriously behind the rest on the 3DMark 2000 scores .
In my opinion putting the Viper into your 1.3Gig powered system is like putting a VW beetle engine into a Ferrari , it will go , just not very fast or very attractively !!
