I recently got a cable modem and would like to hook up a wireless network so I can use a notebook in the house and connect to the Internet. The notebook has a built in wireless card and picks up WIFI automatically whenever we're in a hot spot. I purchased a wireless router and attempted to hook it up, but when I needed to hook the router into the PC tower, I found that the network cable was the "wide" type and the connection on the PC was a small one (like for a telephone). My PC is about three or four years old and doesn't seem to have a port for a network cable. Is there another (cheap) solution? An adapter? I only borrow the notebook from work and so don't want to spend a fortune hooking up the wireless network. Any help would be appreciated!

How is your cable modem hooked up to the tower?

It's hooked up with a small connector like the telephone.

Knights81,
Welcome to the PC Guide forums!

Well, the connectors look similar between telephone and Ethernet, but the Ethernet has 8 wires and the phone has 4 wires.
Can you take a close look at that cable connector and see how many wires?

What make/model of router did you get?

The modem is hooked up with a four wire connector. The network cable has 8. I bought a Belkin Wireless 6 Plus.
