cd problem

i have an old CD drive that works fine when its pluged in(power), but when you plug it in to the computer(cable) it just stops in its steps and wont react at all.... any suggestions?

The cables and jumpers must be set correctly. Best troubleshooting arrangement is as lone master at the end of a 40 wire cable. If it doesnt work in two PCs this would tend to confirm hardware failure.

The door opening and closing and led flashing when a power cable alone is attached would be "normal".
