I have an HP Pavilion computer I bought in 1998, It came with 32 MB
of RAM and is upgradeable to 256. A year or so I added
32 for a total of 64. With memory so cheap now I'd
like to add more. The problem is that my manual says I
need SDRAM 168-pin Dimms with 66MHz "or faster". all
of the chips I can find on sale are PC100 or PC133. HP
e-mail support says I have to stick with 66MHZ. If I
buy and install a PC100 Dimm will it not work at all?
Cause some sort of damage or problem? Or work just fine?

According to what I've been able to find out, it should work. PC 100 RAM is not limited to 100MHz, that's just the maximum. It's supposed to be backward compatible, which means it shoud run fine at 66MHz.

Pete's right (shocker there, huh? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif )
You'll be perfectly fine, and you might as well go with PC133 for a little future upgrade insurance, although it's looking like DDR and RDRAM are the wave of the future...

When all else fails, read the instructions.
Trust me, HP mail support doesn't read their own manuals...the manual says PC-66 or PC-100....and they should be able to handle PC-133, just don't try a 256MB stick, use 2 128MB sticks...I am typing this on a Pavilion with 2 sticks of PC-100 in it, so yes it does work!

I'm going to throw in a wet towel here and tell you that even though the PC100,133 are backwards compatible-i've come across several PC66 systems that ran into problems using a mix of 66/100 ( or 133 ), so i would suggest you remove the PC66 sticks and just go with the PC133 or PC100's, and make sure you use quality memory from crucial or kingston.
