Hello,
Thought I got wormed or virused when my greeting screen said "Your profile may be corrupted" etc. Anyway, got my old profile restored (well, mostly)and installed Norton Antiv and Firewall. My 56K modem which used to deliver at 49Kbps now is 19.2Kbps. Any remedy for this short of uninstalling NAVirus (which brings it up to 34Kbps)?
TIA, Carl (PC/WinXP)

Hi carltj. I've used Norton AV and the Norton Firewall during the last year with no problems. I have a 56K modem and normally connect at 28800 bps or 31200 bps. I don't think Norton is the root of your problem, but rather, the orignial worm or virus with which you got hit. Putting Norton AV and Firewall on your system after an attack is the same as closing the barn door after the horse gets out. However, I'd use Norton to do a full system check and see if that helps. Your modem driver AT commands could be at fault. Uninstall and reinstall the default modem driver(s).
