CPU problems

hi all,

About 3 months ago the cpu in my toshiba tecra s2 started encountering problems. When i opened an application like a game, the cpu usage would quickly shoot to 100% and stay there for a random amount of time before eventually dropping to what it should be (50-80%) usage. I tested different things that i thought might be causing the problem to no avail so sent it back to toshiba who in turn replaced the cpu but could not tell me what the problem was.

Its been about 3 weeks since i got the cpu replaced the the problem has arrived again. Iv run every virus scanner, spyware software that i can think of and have shut down all these programs as well whilst playing (plus shut down all uneccesary programs in the task bar) but it still has the problem.

Iv run fraps to watch the frame rate in the games and it starts at 60 (where it should be all the time) and slowly drops to 1 before randomly fixing itself.

im lost to a solution but any help would be greatly appreciated.

What CPU, what OS, and how much RAM?

Sounds to me like some type of malware stealing your CPU cycles...

Please update your antivirus and run a scan. Also, run Spybot Search & Destroy and allow it to clean out any threats. Then, after you have done this, run HiJack This, choose to save a log file, and post the contents of the file here. Please use separate posts if it will not fit in one (no attachments if possible).

Then, once the log file is posted here, sooner or later, the PC Guide HJT-analyzing-gurus will let you know what is safe to delete.

Do your computer being sluggish? Try close all the applications that are running, excluding the background services like AV. Observe on the cpu usage, is it at 0-1%? I think it's a usual symptom about your cpu usage when you open an application it will expand its usage, especially you are oppening a game.
Lastly do as azzey had mentioned, post a HiJackThis log file here to get more help...
