Should I overclock my system or not. There are numerous ways to overclock and I was just wonder if you all had any bad experiences, like shortening the processers life.I would delve into the subject but there is just so much out there ,so ill just say general overclocking. So is it a nay or yea?

Try this site i hope these get you there.http://www.internet.com
or just shoot for Sysopt.com these people have all the guff on clocking and over clocking you know more about this than me you have more icons by yur name than me http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif but i'm trying. this place has all the charts
& specs on any unit . hope this helps you if you can't get there w/ these
i'll figure out how i got there and get a better link http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

The icons mean a person has posted a bunch of times, not that he or she knows more than anyone else.

Trish's Escape from Hardware Hell (http://www.hardwarehell.com/) has several links with good info in either the Optimization section or Motherboard/CPU.
Personally I don't think it's worth it in most cases, if you're running faster than about a 500MHz CPU already you won't get enough out of it to notice enough difference to offset the risks of frying CPU or other components. Usually to maintain decent performance, stability and CPU cooling you won't get more than about a 10-15% increase, which you won't notice, unless you benchmark it...I'd rather wait the extra 10th of a second and keep my CPU and other components working...
Most CPUs spend most of their time waiting to begin with, since they handle data transfers at rates of millions of times per second. If you think you need to speed up the machine it's much safer to add more or faster memory, better video card or faster hard drive and optimize the existing system.

I'm with Pete on this...
Overclocking is sort of like hotrodding...most of the purpose is just for bragging rights:
"I have a Celeron 300 running at 942mhz...the whole system is immersed in liquid nitrogen, how cool am I?"
To get enough of a speed increase to make it noticeable, you will have to spend mucho $ on cooling...and anymore, you could probably just buy a faster cpu/mobo for the same price...
That's not to say that it isn't fun to experiment, "just to see" how fast a cpu will run...just do your research first and be willing to accept any consequences...
