This is probably a stupid question but...

I just got my MacBook in the mail today. The wireless connection is working here at the house but what happens when I go to college? I know that some spots on compus are wireless but I am more concerned about surfing the net/having internet connectivity while in my dorm room. The dorms are not wireless so how can I achieve internet there? I do know that each room comes with two hubs for an ethernet cord. Would that help me?

Thanks everyone!

Yep. Simply plug the ethernet cable into the laptop, and you're off! Wireless really is better for laptops, since you can lounge around anywhere and still be on the PC Guide *wink*. You might have to find out if there are any special configuration settings that might prevent you from connecting.

If you want wireless in your dorm room you will most likely need an wireless access point. Just ask the IT department and they will be able to tell you what you need and how to configure it.

azzey, good one. lol.

But seriously, I don't have an enthernet cable. Can I purchase one from best buy or staples? Should my notebook have come with one?

Thanks again!

Best Buy would definetly have one. Staples probably will. Probably didn't come with the computer.

If you are sure the internet connection in the dorm area is 'active', you can purchase a direct cable to test it. Otherwise it's useless even you plug the ethernet cable to your laptop. For the direct cable, usually it'll be given along when you bought your laptop, which is more 'thick' with its diameter compare to modem cable. :p
