hello, i have ancompaq presario 5461 with an amd k6-2 500 mhz, 128 mb ram, 10 gig. i recently bought an stb velocity 4400 pci video card (figured itd be better than the 8mb sis onboard). how do i disable the onboard video step by step and make my computer recognize the new one? also, is there anything else that i need to do for the new vid card? step by step would be great. keep in mind that campaqs have a bios called EZBios.

Welcome to the forums jr92gp!
First restart your cpu and then when the ram counts up hit del on your keyboard.(might be f10 or esc for compaqs)Then look for onboard video in your bios should be in intergrated perpiheals. Then disable it in bios. After that should have something called "exit and save changes" click on that and save it.Then your cpu will boot up again and the ram count will start.Dont let it boot to windows ,shut down your cpu before(i.e. right after you save the changes in the bios). Then unplug your cpu from the wall and unplug your monitor too. Then put the video card in the pci slot or agp. After that plug everything up and boot up again . Then it will find you video card and when it comes up just hit cancel. Then put the video card cd in and let it load up. Windows will then probably wont you to reboot your cpu , so do that. Then when you get back to windows it will find the video card.If colors are messed up go alternate click on the desktop and hit customize desktop and go under setting and then colors and change to 16 bit or 32 bit.If you know cpus somewhat you should have no problem with this process . Hope this help you if not just post back, SEE YA
