Recommendation Needed on Mobo and CPU Combo

Would this be a decent mobo and cpu for a first time builder?

I plan to use this computer in conjunction with the ADS Tech Pyro A/V hardware and Adobe Premiere Elements 2.0 software to download and burns disks of family movies from VHS and 8mm tapes.

That mobo should be packed away under 6 inches of mothballs! It's so old I can hear the chipset creaking... :p

Also, which core revision is that 3500+ you were looking at? It's Venice E6, right?

You've already convinced me to forget the mobo.....it still has the 8x AGP and not PCI Express...and I didn't see any mention of Firewire.

I don't know anything about the Venice verses Clawhammer.

Woah! You dug up some old hardware there. The Clawhammer was the original core revision for the Athlon64, and once again, it's old. You want the latest core revision, which is Venice, with the latest stepping, which is E6.

To make sure you do get the latest version 3500+ (which is important) just check the model code before you buy. You want ADA3500DAA4BW. That's the retail box OPN straight from AMD. Look for that code specifically and you know you've got the right version. Likewise, you can always substitute "3200" or "3800" for the "3500" if you want to get a faster or slower CPU.
