Just curious... I know this is more than likely a basic question. But I want to avoid any problems...

The installation manual for the card I purchased is vague. It states, "Please first configure your OS to use a standard VGA driver before installing the AGP VGA card.".

How do I accomplish this?

I'd think uninstalling your current video card drivers (Add/Delete Programs in Control Panel) would do it.

What kind of Video card are you replacing? 3dfx can leave a lot of unwanted entries behind. Even Nvidia leaves a few files from old drivers.

Go here, Guru3d (http://www.guru3d.com), and get the latest drivers for the geforce and you'll find utilities to help in making sure that when you've uninstalled older drivers no residue is left.

The usual procedure is: Add/Remove programs-uninstall current display drivers Use a utility like Detonator Destroyer to find left over files reboot and when windows asks you for the new drivers, install your card as standard VGA then update the drivers (making sure you've created a directory to them 1st) reboot, set the display to your desired resolution.

Installing a video card can be one of the most frustrating experiances in peripheral upgrades, just take your time-remember that it is one of the most important functions of your PC, cause if you can't see what you're doing-you can't get anything done. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

More then likely as soon as you install the card in the system, when you reboot, it is automatically going to detect the card, and install it as a standard vga adapter on its own.......

What they 'may be' suggesting, is allow the machine to completely boot up, 'without' installing the drivers, and then install the drivers 'after' the machine is running......

In other words......dont try to install the drivers when the machine asks you for them on boot up, as it detects the card......

Completely boot the system and then install the drivers after

Either way, installing this card 'should' go pretty easily.....

Again, Im guessing what that statement means.....but you 'may not' have any other choice reguardless........might be the only way to install the drivers (cant remember)...

Good Luck, and enjoy your new card.........
