I have an older computer Packard Bell 486 with upgrade to 586 with ISA bus. Would like to upgrade the video to run some of the software programs for CAD design. I don't have a seperate PCI slot only an available ISA slot on the riser board. What is available and what to look for when searching for the card. I know I will need to disable the on board video just confused on what upgrade card to look for.
Thanks

Hi Durango,
I think your choices are few and far between. This 2MB SIIG (http://www.computers4sure.com/Product.asp?ProductID=27497&iid=342) is about it, unless you get something on the used (http://www.baber.com/baber/products/isa_video_cards.htm) market. I'm no CAD expert, but unless you have a very "lightweight" CAD program, I'm guessing your system would "choke" on it.

I agree with Kenja. You won't find much above 2mb for an ISA card. You're probably better off using the onboard vid.

Check Price Combat (http://www.pricecombat.com./) and CSO (http://www.computersurplusoutlet.com/). ISA cards are sometimes still available, and not expensive, but I doubt if you'll find more than 2MB.

The problem is the software works best with High color 16 bit (65,000 colors) which the video on board cannot display apparently. I suppose it is time for the kids to get this computer and get a new one.
