I am trying to set up a network printer to share on my computers. I have the printer physically connected to my XP machine. I am trying to set up my win 98 PC to share it. On win 98 PC, I select add printer, select network printer and select next, the I browse for the printer on the network and I select as my path \\computer name whichis connected to PC\printer and I select next, the wizard asks me to find the manufacturer and model of my printer. I find HP but not the model so I select have disk. I tried putting my driver CD in but wizard wouldn't accept it so I select browse which opens a window and lists my win98 c: drive contents. There is an option to select NETWORK which I do. Now the wizard is asking me to map a network drive so I enter \\jersey\c for drives and it lists the contents of my C drive of jersey, I select program files and select OK but nothing happens.

What do I need to do to get my printer working on both printers please? I appreciate any help.

TIA

I tried putting my driver CD in but wizard wouldn't accept it so I select browse which opens a window and lists my win98 c: drive contents.
Try that again, only this time browse to the CD drive, and look for an .INF file.

I assume if a manufacturers site says no network support then the printer can not be used on shared network, correct?

That's not necessarily true, you should still be able to share the printer. What printer do you have? (Manufacturer and model)

K, right on HP.com they say that this printer can be shared by PC's that have the same OS.

Check out this link from HP.com, it will explain how to setup and share this printer. Hope this helps.
