All of you who are looking for a new computer or who are just interested in such things:

If this 'price war' really starts then I think that we should all be as supportive as possible of the better "small guy" places so they don't go the way of the dinosaurs or the full-service gas station. If that happens then we would all be at the mercy of "tech support" and warranty service.

Maybe also the component manufacturers will also have to cut prices?

Maybe even INTEL? AMD?

Whatever your position on the 'price war' is I think that the computer industry is going to have a major shake-up over the next 6-12 months so be prepared for some good deals and some major disappointments.

Things are starting to look kind of bleak overall in the PC industry. The shopping season was described as one of the worst ever, and as I've mentioned in my weekly column, online companies are being hit very hard -- including me of course.
I fear it is going to get worse before it gets better. When you have companies like Gateway in the red and announcing price cuts from $1299 to $999 on the same machine, you have to figure they are losing money on each PC they sell. Not good.

It is amazing to me all the $$$$ that has, is, and still will be made from this (pc)industry, that these very same billion dollar companies GREED has No bounds!!!!!!

There is a saturation level where once everyone has an individual pc (or 2) of their own that there WILL be falling purchases. Certainly, like the television, people will still purchase new pc's and upgrades. What I thinks gonna happen with all of these measures they are so intent on seeing implemented, is a further rapid decline in public interest. Lets face it folks, for those of us who have been "into" pc's a while already KNOW the limitations we currently face.. whats it gonna be next??

With every restriction/limtation that is put and every once of personal freedom being dictated and controlled by the "BIG THREE" I firmly believe that they are cutting their own throats!!!!!!

If we sit idly by and dont boycott or react to this they will destroy a very good thing.(which has made them enormously rich)

Oh.. and why have we NOT heard much of anything regarding the very QUIET take-over of Time/Warner (the BIGGEST and Oldest mulimedia co in existence in usa) doesnt it make anyone wonder that the Largest internet provider (and their service sux) and the largest Multi-Media 'conglomerate' has so QUIETLY merged??? does this seem odd only to me ?????? Yes, it was 'mentioned' in the news but for a merger of this magnitude.. and considering the MEDIA is them.. u have to notice the LACK of coverage.

This makes the AT&T "monopoly" look like a Taco stand........
