i have a drive that is separated into two drives/volumes, each being shown as a different drive. how do i make it just one?

Backup any important data first.
Delete the partition you dont want (having first moved any data from it to the other partition).
Resize the remaining partition to the full size of the drive.
That's how to do it but are you sure that is what you want to do since partitioned drives do have a number of advantages and why was it partitioned in the first place?
BiNG (in my sig) and Partition Magic are the sort of utilities to use.
I always caution against using any Merge functions since this seems to be the most likely way to screw up your data and system.

what are the advantages to having the drive split?
as far as why it was partitioned in the first place, i have no idea, it juist came that way with my old system (over six years ago, with WinME). it totals to a 40GB drive if whole, and 23/16 approx. partitioned.
