I've viewed the Windows XP Help file and it did not help me even a bit. Yes, I and my brother both use Windows XP. Our computers are connected by LAN. The problem is that I can only access by brother's PC. He cannot access mine. An error comes up everytime he double clicks on my computer's icon in 'My Workgroup'. So what's the problem here? I've done everything like 'Network Connection Wizard' on both computers and it said it is completed. But only I can access my brother's computer and he can't.

I reconnected the LAN wire, rebooted -- same old stuff. It still doesn't work. There is a 'two computer' icon in the right-hand-corner of my screen and it says CONNECTED. My brother does the same as well. What's going on here?

So if we were to play some games on LAN, he always needs to host the game. Because he can't join mine. :p

Is there a Firewall problem here? I don't think so. I checked my firewall.

Thanks for your help.

Does your computer have a password, and his not? That's the only thing I can think of. XP needs each user to have a local account unless you have a server specified.

Try hooking the two computer up with a crossover cable and see if the problem persists.

Are you able to ping your computer from you brother's computer? Do you have 'File Sharing' enabled on both computer? What user name are you both logging in with on your computers? Do you have each other's user name added as a user on each computer? What is the error that you get?

We both don't have passwords.

We have File Sharing enabled.

The OS is the most important bit of info for troubleshooting networking issues. Are they Home or Pro? To connect to XP pro you will want to set up a password.
