I have two buildings that I wish to connect via two wireless Linksys WRT54G routers. Basically I want to network both routers and so I can plug in wired devices (Xbox and PC's) at each location and have them communicate on the same network. I've done some research on the net and some people claim that it can be done using the standard firmware that comes with the router and just plugging into the switched ports, others claim that you must run a 3rd party firmware (hyperWRT ect...) to make this work.

CAT5 cable is cheap but a wireless network would be a lot better incase I want to add more network locations.

Any sugesstions on how I can get this wireless/wired network working?

Welcome to the PC guide forums....

Unless you are glutton for punishment, wired is the way to go. Faster, more secure and easier to add stations by adding larger switches.....

Classic is right about speed and security. If you want to go wireless..

IF you have two routers in a network as you describe the simplest solution is to turn one router into a bridge or Access Point. This will pass all traffic to the main router. It will allow all the connected devices to be on the same network.

I googled this set up and you can check here

Linksys has some pretty good tutorials as well. You could always look in your documentation about setting up a two routers on the same network.
