Well I built my new machine last weekend and I just wanted to say thanks to everyone that replied to my previous questions and to say that this is a fantastic site and it is in my bookmarks forever.
In the end I ended up going for the following
AMD Tbird 1.4
Abit KG7 - Lite
Apacer 256mb DDR/PC2100
Western Digital 20gb 7200rpm
Codegen mini server case 9001 (400watt psu and dual extract fans)
Hercules Muse xl 4 channel soundcard
Globalwin WBK38 HSF
Of the above there are a few things I would like to mention.
1st. If your buying an abit motherboard (or other brand) with a via686b southbridge I would highly recommend staying away from soundblaster products. I say that after having 1st hand experience with the combination and also from my reasearching efforts to fix my problems. Many people are having trouble with soundblaster gear. (perhaps common knowledge, but hey, I didnt know). I now use a hercules and it is going great !
2nd. If anyone is looking for a good case including a powersupply that wont break the bank, I suggest the codegen miniserver case. Mine only cost $159AUD and it comes with a codegen 400watt psu, 2 extract fans, front and side ventilation and it is really no bigger than a normal midi tower case.
Also has wheels with little breaks http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif .
It does not come with a front intake fan but I really don't think one is needeed. The 2 extract fans really suck the air right through it.
With the globalwin WBK38 and arctic silver2 my system idle's at 35c and peaks at 42c under load.
I also wanted to mention that www.amdmb.com (http://www.amdmb.com) is a great site if anyone needs info on amd chipset motherboards. The forums are especially good.
Anyway thanks again everyone.
Regards,
Aussie
