Hi,
I assembled my computer and switched it on fist time yesterday. Except for a initial hitch with Floppy drive (floppy disk error 40) due to incorrect cable connection, it went off smoothly. Thanks to all who gave the suggestions to my question on purchase decisions and installation. My system config now is : PIII 1gig/133Mhz , Asus Black pearl (cusl2) MB, Quantum 20Gig HD, 52x Sony CDROM, 3.5" panasonic floppy drive, ELSA Gladiac 511 64MB AGP card, Creative Live Value Audio card. I have loaded WIN ME (though I keep hearing on this forum that it is not as good).
This is an excellent site and forum for PC enthusiasts all over the world and I am a daily visitor. Thanks folks..

Thanks Rick and Ranchdog. I haven't faced any major problem with the WIN ME yet. Can someone highlight what the problems are? I have access to WIN2K but someone told me Win2K does not allow to play all games (I am not convinced though.
And Rick, you are right about the addiction!I can feel it http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Perhaps an oversimplification, but Win2K is primarly a business application. There's an internal security resulting in issues with direct access to hardware. As time has gone on drivers have become available for many peripherals to circumvent. The problem is that not all have updated drivers available. There is also, somewhat in the same vein, hardware compatibility issues to address some of which might have to do with firmware. There is a list on Microsoft...the (HCL) Hardware Compatibility List, where you can check to see if your peripherals fit the bill.
What steered me to WinMe was that my son is a gamer and on one of the software boxes I noticed that it said it was not compatible with Win2K. On the ASUS NetQ Forum (I am running an A7V133) there were numerous mis-directed posts (wanted to blame their MB) where their OS was Win2K and they were experiencing all sorts of problems related to their hardware choices. My son plays MechWarrior 4 which is quite graphic intensive and has no problems.
For WinMe to run well you just need to make sure that all your hardware has the most current Me drivers available. Yes, there are some issues e.g.,Power Management...just set all options to NEVER.
I would say you will not have anywhere near the problems you would with drivers and hardware that you would with Win2K...IMHO!
And also, CONGRATULATIONS!
May all your dealings in life be win/win!
