At home I have a wireless network set up.
The network is run through my DLINK router, a model which according to the manufacturer is suitable to support up to 12 simultaneous connections.
There are only two connections - my computer and another.
The person who uses the other experiences occasional disconnections from the network when using software which allows them to connect to an off-site database from home, which I believe are the result of many infections the computer has contracted over the years it has been used, as well as the software. It has never been cleaned of malware, or spyware, and is slow at managing any task.
The person who uses this computer believes that that they are being kicked from the network due to my usage of it for gaming - bear in mind there are only two simultaneous connections to the network at any one time.
The computer also has bandwith priority over mine, and if it experiences a shortage, my bandwidth is throttled accordingly.

So my question is - is it probable, or even possible that they are experiencing disconnects which may only be resolved via a restart, due to me playing internet games?

Possible...yes.

Probable...no.

Probably their problems are from configuration/malware issues, like you suggested. The first thing is to make sure their machine is 'clean', then try to troubleshoot any configuration problems. Then, if there are still any connection problems, try to see if your online gaming has an impact...
