MS posted a free download for Windows Private Folders which was supposed to allow users to have their own little encrypted folders to save stuff in. They have now reversed direction when corporate system administrators started screaming since there was no way to support the feature in a corporate setting.

Is it a big deal I wonder when there is freeware encryption software already easily obtainable.

Axcrypt (http://sourceforge.net/projects/axcrypt/) and Truecrypt (http://sourceforge.net/projects/truecrypt/) for example.

Yes, it was the idea of employees being able to do private folder encryption in a corporate environment that was driving the system admins crazy, all those private key recovery requests when things go awry....actually it should not have been possible to load the application if proper limited user status was enforced by those system admins in the first place. Oooops

I downloaded it and am using on comp.It will be handy if I can only figure out how to copy the files and folders onto pen drive for transporting and backing up. At present I have about 15 sub-folders + 23 other files inside it. The beauty of it is that there is only one srong password to remember for all these files and folders.

The program size is only 1.46MB which when zipped up comes to 1.08MB and can therefor be carried around easily enough

The big disadvantage of win encryption is that if you do forget or lose the key, you are stuffed!
make sure you create an account which can act as a key keeper if you use this.

I wonder how many people will use it for pron...

Anyways, I installed it, and it is a cool little thing. I don't really have much use for it however...
