I want to upgrade the mobo - I need a socket 7 mobo for an AMD
K6-2 500MHZ CPU - It needs to accept 168pin pc100 SDRAM (128MB each),
no agp, 3 pci slots, at least 1 isa slot, no sound onboard.
Anyone know of a specific model off hand? Do not spend a bunch
of time researching, I am in the process of! If you know of one,
only reply if you have a minute. This is middle priority for me.
I have to upgrade the case and power supply anyway - I have an
Geforce 2 MX 400 Pro 64 MBytes VRAM to install - hence, the
power supply needs upgrading, which leads into a new case, etc...

Hey there. I USED to have the K6-2 550 socket 7. The MB I had was an ASUS P5A
Accepts PC100 SDRAM; Look up www.asus.com (http://www.asus.com) for the exact specs (for some reason the site's not working right now, otherwise I'd tell you the specs).
I know FOR SURE it has 1 ISA slot (I think it has 2) and plenty of PCI slots, and DOES have an AGP slot (is your GeForce 2 AGP or PCI). I'm not sure about onboard sound.
Either way it was a GREAT board for me. Never gave me problems, but I found the K6-2 not to be nearly as good as the PIII for gaming, so I upgraded. I myself just ordered a GeForce 2 MX 400 64MB AGP card. I'm excited. Can't wait to see what it can do (currently have a Voodoo 3 2000 16MB PCI)

Socket 7 boards are getting to be obsolete, but there some laying around somewhere, personally I would got with the AMD Duron. There cheap , and there is more supply out there.Im sure you ll be paying the same for a duron board,as you would pay for a socket 7 board, due to the supply out there. Go here they have good prices and good shipping rates. And great service. http://tcwo.com/

Only thing I could find was at CSO (http://www.computersurplusoutlet.com/) and it has onboard video and sound. I don't recommend those...keep checking, they might get more in any day. Price Watch (http://www.pricewatch.com/) is a good place to look too.

I recently saw a Fry's ad that had a FIC VA-503+ MB with AMD 500 for only $59. I'd give them a call in NoCal to see if they still have them. I think the MB should meet your needs. The FIC VA-503+ has 2 DIMM slots, 4 SIMMS, 3 PCI, 1 AGP, and 3 ISA. I have 2 of these boards, they work great.

Try cpu4u.com, or computersurplusoutlet.com, or computer-show.com
Just a few I know of.

Please don't consider a GigaByte GA-5AX. It is very unstable.
Luck.
