Hey all, this is my first post, and this looks like a good site to ask questions on.

My zd8000's monitor is discoloured ONLY on its right side, from the middle to the right edge. I used to be able to press lightly on the back panel, and it would clear up, but today it just won't do anything. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so what did you do to fix this? Replace the monitor, or something else?

Thanks for any help!

Welcome to the PC Guide Forums.

Unfortunately it sounds like a display problem, the display may need replacement. How old is it and is it under warranty?

I bought the machine, late last August... CompUSA said they couldn't find the warranty info, from the S/N number I gave them. I have emailed HP, and am waiting for them to reply.

I bought the machine from my Bro-in-law, who works for HP in Idaho, and I've also got a voice mail into him, to help me...

Thanks for such a quick reply.

My pleasure if it helps you fix the issue.
I do recommend people buy the extended warranty on notebook displays as they are very proprietary and expensive, unless they are capable of replacing it themselves.

HP emailed me back, and told me to look into my BIOS... Still discoloured when in the BIOS, so I'm now waiting for them to reply back to me with more interesting advice...

Whoever gave you that advice at HP is sitting there but not thinking.
It only takes someone to look at the display to understand that BIOS is unlikely to be the issue, considering it is only affecting half the screen.
A bad backlight bulb or a cable problem or a bad LCD display...but not BIOS.
