Hi everyone,
I get the feeling based on posted messages that many ppl here do not like Windows ME. I am currently running win98 and have the choice to upgrade to win2000 or winMe. I'm thinking of going with winMe (full installation, not the upgrade)... so seriously... what's wrong with it??

Nothing really just doesn't like to play with other software. All Me is,Is a third generation W/98. I run Me it just has funny quircks. the thing is if you like to manage files your self , me has a habit of hiding them for you. It's all in what you are used to. This is totaly my opinionIt just really has a problem with other software. But I can say it is just as stable as any other windows I have seen. look at the posts, any one that is having problems is usually W/98 or 98se W/2000 is probobly the most stable you can find besides 95 and that depends on a or? Ia am not an expert by no means I just do not see any difference between 98 and Me except Me has system restore IHMO as long as your doing a full Installation Me is great but not as an upgrade. hope this helps some. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

If win2k and Win-me are your only options and you Don’t Need 16bit windows /dos legacy support .
Win2k is your best bet.
If you are using Non Plug and Play hardware / legacy again stay away from win-me
If you need Dos support and are willing to do all the configurations by hand then win-me will work. But it’s easier with win98se
ALL versions of windows are unstable to an extent dependent on the hardware and software resources

Being I tech comps. fer a living, or try to, I've recent had the opportunity to play around with Win XP. Personally, this has to be one of the most stable operating systems I've worked with and it is just filled with eye candy to boot. Very Pwetty OS.
Downside, you better have a machine with 128MB+ ram, and at least a 500 mHz processor.
With a machine better than that, oh... *drool* is runs quite well.
To tell you how stable it is, we tried crashing it one night. We deleted the System folder, rebooted, came up just fine, all programs were working. Did the same thing to the WINNT, which is the windows installation folder, same thing, boot up just fine no problems. We had to go in and randomly start changing values in the registry to get it to go down, but it still allowed us enough access to the system so if we had to backup files we could have. It was crazy.
I'm impressed so far and am looking forward to playing with it.
Oh, and it will allow you to edit the properties of application files (.exe, .bat, etc) allowing you to emulate a different operating system. So, all those old Win 95 programs, will think they are running under Win 95, or Win 98 or DOS for that matter.

hmmmm... thanks for the responses guys...
i think i'll be going with win Me... 2000 to my knowledge takes a lot of memory... everything you can throw at it.. and it takes a while to load up certain applications... and since the responses have not been too negative with ME then....
i don't think i'll be installing xp.... it looks nice and all but i don't want to call up microsoft everytime i want to install/reinstall...
