is it pissible to build a good gaming PC with 1100 dollars, if i have the case and CD/dvd rom drives. hear is what im thinking of building. tell me your thoughts and if you think it will be a great gaming pc

ok now for my build!!

7800 or newer is a must for me, one of the only things that im sure about, im a serius gamer and im doing all this gaming for a radeon 9200 sereis card and 256mbs for ram it sucks but i love the games, so i suck it up.

MOBO anything that supports AM2 socket, ive always loved ASUS im almost possitive ill get this from them probly the videocard as well.

2Gs of RAM, straight forward enouph.

good Power supply, im probably going to get one from the recommended hardware sticky on this forum.

a nice Proccessor, this is the aria i need alot of help in, with a budget of around 1000 dollars for the entire build, its clearly not going to be AMD FX anything, well probably not anyway, i was looking at this CPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103631
the only reason im looking at this CPU is because it seems to offer high speeds for such a low price, but feel free to talk me out of it im not sure of the bennifits on Dual-core and gaming, and i wont spend 300 extra dollars to get dual-core tech just because its NEW and a little better.

i was looking at this CPU for a Dual-core http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103631

SATA HDD i suppose, i already have CD romm floppy, and Zip drive and a case.

1000 dollars is plenty if you figure, 150 for MOBO, 200 for Ram, 200 for CPU, 300 for GPU, 100 for Powersupply, and 100 for new SATA HDD, lol well a little over budget but im rounding up on everthing so at 1050 id say thats a fair price to pay for a great PC, any thoughs comments?

That CPU looks good. For hard disk, I'd say go for a Samsung Spinpoint - 2nd best only to the overpriced and noisy Raptor drives. For the graphics card, prolly best to stick with Nvidia since I've recently had a Ati card and I'm getting constant problems with it. Very annoying. Nvidia's drivers are at least stable! For the vid card maker, i'd say if all you want is a good card, just buy the cheapest of the card series out there. Paying for extra overclocking and accessories isn't worth it in my opinion. For the PSU, both the Antec and Enermax offer good value for money. I can also say that the Enermax Liberty 500W I'm using is totally silent.

Good luck with it anyway.

thanks for the help, one more thng, does an over clocked video card really offer much better performace?

lets say i have a card 7800 card, one is OC to clock mem umm 550, and the other is standerd at 440, will there be a major noticable diffrence in performance, or is the little extra speed not worth loosing stability?

I've never overclocked one of those, so I couldn't be sure. I'd say an increase of maybe 3-7 fps depending on the game. As I said before, I'd rather save the cash than pay for a pre-overclocked one, which just gives you an extended warranty agreement to include the overclocked card. To be honest, rather than overclock (or pay for a pre-overclocked) 7800, you'd be better off just getting a 7900GT.

i wont oveclock it but i was looking at the pre-overclocked cards, that seem to offer much igher stats for about 30 bux more

Personally I tend to favor the factory OC'ed cards if the price isn't much more than the regular version. They are tested stable at the factory and are covered by the warranty without question. IMHO.

I do agree if the price for an OC'ed 7800 is close to the 7900 series step up the 7900 series. A newer core revision is always better than it's OC'ed predecessor. Again IMHO.

As far as the CPU goes put the cash into the video card first since you are a heavy gamer. That's what is going to give you the most gaming power. Then if you still have room for it get the dual core CPU, or bump up the speed on the single core. Oh BTW, both the CPU links went to the same CPU.
