Tosh Laptop
XP Pro sp2
Celeron 2.8ghz
704mb RAM

Having ran adaware, S&D, ewido a few others too, and had a look at the HJT log, I still find I've got trouble switching off the PC, infact I have to press the "turn off computer" button two times. After the first go at switching off, I lose a few items in the task bar and I can't expand it to see what's there. I can still use all programs and go online too. I can use the PC for an unlimited time before deciding to switch off completely.

I've also had a "systemerrorshield" pop up, but the PC doesn't have virtumundo or winfixer or anything like that. It's only an IE window with an address for systemerrorshield in the title bar and only one line in the main window showing the same address. A harmless pop up, but annoying as it can pop up at any time (only 1 time during each session though).

Any help is much appreciated.

cheers

Alex

You have something running in the back ground that is blocking the first shutdown message or just refusing/failing to close and allow the shutdown to happen

Please post your HiJackThis log

I managed to stop the turn off problem by unchecking some of the non-important start up items in msconfig, but I didn't delete anything.

I am still getting System error shield coming up in an IE browser though.

http://systemerrorshield.com/securit...rity_index.php OK http://popup.com/ OK OK OK

thats the text in the main window (nothing else - not hotlinked or dressed up, plain text)

Do you have any items disabled by MSConfig?

If so, undo that and run a fresh HJT log...
