Well with the new price cuts in AMD I do believe its time for a new system. But first I have started reading up on all the new wonders since the last time(6 years ago) I put my first system together. So I am really looking to spur some intelligent conversation here. First off this is going to be primarly a gaming system....as if there were any other reasons to build a nice cpu.
Question:
Sockets... 939 or AM2?
I was looking to go with: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+
Would it be worth the extra $55 to get the 4600+?
Also should I go OEM or will the retail fan suffice?

For the RAM Im am going to assume DDR2 unless there are any objections?
Looking at Classicsoftware's post would I benefit greatly by using the
Corsair XMS2 2gig pc2 6400 ddr2 800, or taking the budget way out and using the corsair value select? pc2 5300 ddr2 667?

As far as video card I am not sure what exactly to go with yet, but my price range will be around $350 or so. XFX 7900 GT?

Ok now for a motherboard I am also looking for a little advise, but I want to lean towards budget here also.

Cooling and Powersupplies are unknowns to me, never had to worry about buying good ones befor

Thanks guys for your help and Im looking forward to your responses.

I have looked in to all the am2 motherboards with the 590 chipset. I personally wouldn't get the asus, the foxconn is the best overclocker if thats what your looking for. I personally got the Gigabyte (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16813128011)
But i have to go i will comment later.
