IBM R-50 Notebook Boot-up stuck at Client Security Screen

Good Day All,
I have an IBM R-50 w 1GB RAM Pentium M 1.40 Notebook.
Issue: During boot up process hangs at "Communicating with IBM User Verification manager screen".
I ran Spinrite 6.0 at level 5 through a Spinrite boot cd and there are no physical issues with the hard drive. It appears then to be a software issue. IBM tech support had me run some tests to se if I could get a successfull Safe Mode boot. Nothing. They said only alternative is a re-Image/recover to factory contents procedure. :(

Any other suggestions before this drastic step? If I reimage can I recover any of the lost data? :eek:

I figured it out. I did a bootup in Safe Mode with the command prompt. From there I put in the DOS command for system restore (%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe) without the parentheses. Then it was a matter of going back to a good restore point. Prayers definitely helped. :)
