No login screen

This is very peculiar. I have been noticing for the last few days, when I lock my computer down at work for the day, and return in the morning, there is no unlock computer screen. There is nothing there. No desktop icons, nothing, just my desktop backghround. My mouse still works though. I have to physically shut down my computer and wait for it to startup and then I get the prompt to log on. Any ideas would be great. I'm thinking my computer has seen it's last days.

Not likely your machine is dieing, more likely to be a glitch at some level. Can you tell us more about this comp? Make, model, OS, RAM, those sort of things really help in suggesting diagnostics. Have you been having other problems? When you say "I have to physically shut down my computer and wait for it to startup", do you have to hold down the power switch until it shuts off or do you have the "Start" menu available? Is this machine on a network?
