Ok, so here's the situation. I got my wireless network running, and my router is in my brother's room, which is about maybe 50 feet from where I sit when i'm doing this. And every once in a while I get this insane idea of taking my laptop over to my parents house when i do dinner there just in case I get the urge to go online. And then out of no where, I can't obtain an IP adress while there. The funny part about this is that when I used my laptop for the first time with a wireless network was when i was at my parent's house in the first place and it seemed to work just fine. I figured it was possibly because I initialized my ip obtaining from the upstairs as compared to when I go over now a days and turn the notebook on while I'm down stairs.

The other issue I have is that I am using VNC so i can play with my server without having to constantly get in there and fix it. And so i get this great idea of setting up a fixed IP adress and that sounds great at first until I try it. It will obtain an IP adress, but I have limited to no connectivity with the wireless network, but yet when I set it up to obtain an IP adress automatically it works just dandy.

Is there something going on with my default router configuration I need to set before I can go any further on any of this? Or am I just crazy?

Check the order of your preferred wireless networks and set the first one to the network you are trying to connect to...
