I've tried everything, heres what has gone wrong. Well i'm into PC games, I was playing a game online called Counter: Strike. It was working fine. Then the next morning i turned on my pc, The monitor just was flashing orange, and nothing had happened. I reset the pc but this time it turned on took about 3.5 Mins on the Windows thing scrolling blue across. The it when black for about 15 seconds came back on to the windows is starting up. I typed in my password, it took ages to apply my personal settings. Then ages for 1 virus scanner to load up and my sound card Thing. I then decide to play a game i join a online server, i was laggin like hell. I then decided to play in offline mode, still lagging like hell. so i tried a less powerful game lagging aswell. I tried updating my graphic card, defragmenting, deleteing files not needed, running virus scanners many times, but it still does all of those things every time you switch the pc on got any ideas to help, Oh.. and my game worked fine before i have a 256mb Graphic card, 512 mb ram, my processor was 2 or 2.5 Ghz but now seems to be 1.2Ghz is that was is causing it. Please help me!
oh and it takes ages to open up word as well

Hello Tobias12 and welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif
Exactly what AV and spyware scans have you run? How about HijackThis?

Hijack This is a great tool that can be used to eliminate garbage that may be screwing your system. Go to Applications and Security on this forum and you can find the download there. Just follow the instructions posted, it's very simple.
Once the scan is completed, it will post the results on notepad. You can copy the contents and paste it on the "Applications and Security" forum. Hopefully the experts there will help you.
Good luck ;)

Where did you see this bit of information? If the CPU is really being identified as half its actual speed, (give or take a bit) something else is amiss. Check the BIOS to see what it says, usually the CPU speed with most newer systems is set automatically by BIOS. Most of the time if it is set accordingly it will correctly identify the CPU and set the correct clock speed, multiplier and voltage.
I'm also wondering if the CMOS battery is weak or d3ead. THat could cause the BIOS information to be reset and possibly have this result. Has your Windows clock been losing time too?
Once the scan is completed, it will post the results on notepad.
True, but only if you click the "Save Log" button. Other than that slight omission, the rest is fine.
Tobias: DO NOT make any changes with Hijack This unless instructed to do so by the security folks here on the forums. Hijack This scans for registry changes in certain areas and is an excellent tool, but can also render Windows useless if the wrong item is removed. In that case, you'll be reinstalling next time you reboot.
Run Adaware and Spybot first, and remove all malware they find. In some severe cases I run the Ewido Security Suite too, it will find other things like rootkits and trojans that Adaware and Spybot are not designed to deal with. Make sure you update these programs to make sure they have the most recent databases.
I think due to the misidentified CPU speed this is more likely to be something in BIOS configuration.

The CMOS battery is physicaly on the motherboard. Here is a picture of one to help identify http://www.pcguide.com/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=454&stc=1
Replace this and lets see how it is doing

is that wat could make the processor lose half its speed and make my computer so slow
bassman

Yes. If the BIOS is incorrectly setting clock speeds and voltage, along with inacurate speed identification, this could cause a serious slow down. Change the battery and test for accuracy. If you still have a problem we should dig deeper for other issues.

where can i get a battery
WalMart, Radio Shack, Circuit City, any computer store...even car dealerships. It is a standard size that is sold almost anywhere that sells watch/camera type batteries.

330TO GET IT INSTALLED??? My god, that is ridiculous! I can not see how people sleep at night asking that kind of money.
If you are unsure of yourself inside the case, it is best to have someone who knows do this but it really is a simple task to perform. I would ask around a bit more before paying that kind of money. If you brought your case into my shop, I would charge you the cost of the battery and $5 or $10 dollors (depending on your attitude ;) ) just for the sake of having to put my hands inside the case.
If you care to try, we can give you safe, simple instruction but I don't want you to do something you are uncomfortable with ;)
