take a look at this pic, it's Abit's newest motherboard with KT333 and ECC/Non-ECC support PC16/21/2700 DDR, also with RAID & onboard NIC. It also has 4 USB 1.1 inputs, with 2 1394 firewire ports and headers for 2 more USB 2.0 connections ( it has the 2.0 controller built onboard of course ).

But notice what it doesn't have?! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif

Hmmm,
no parallel, no serial, no PS2, no game controler/midi. USB and 1394 would take care of all that http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
Still have AGP for video and it appears to have 6 USB inputs (2 below the NIC). Does it also have headers to plug other connectors into??(for frontside ports).
Looks like the floppy is next to the RAID setup.
Curious, what are the two different jacks just west of the audio jacks (yellow and black on one set and single black on the other)?

Missing a couple of PCI slots, serial ports, and the parallel port. Also missing the PS2 mouse and keyboard ports. This board would suit me just fine I only use 2 PCI slots and everything else is USB or on the network.
The floppy plugs in to the right of the 4 yellow RAID connectors and the monitor will plug into the video card. If you want a printer it better be USB or on the network.

Yep...read an article earlier this year that MS/Intel where pushing for no Parallel or serial devices...looks like sooner rather than later.

And only 3 PCI slots......must be wanting to phase those out too!

I think those extra jacks by the audio are for digital audio outputs....

The black jack is for the rear speakers the yellow I think is a SPDIF out(but I though yellow was reserved for video) and the square port is fiber optic audio out

You are all right about the missing PS/2 ports, and the no# of USB-missed a couple there http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/tongue.gif

Seems that Intel has been pushing to remove the {now} old PCI standard for a new one, can't remeber what it's called right now. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

Intel has also been trying to get the PS/2 phased out, and to be honest, i'm with them on this one-USB is a much better option-and saves you the headache of replacing a board because the controllers are burnt out when a " user " pulls out the keyboard/mouse PS/2 plugs repeatly because- ...aren't they just like USB ports?!...

http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

By the way this is the AT7 board , skoot on over to Abit (http://www.abit.com.tw/abitweb/webjsp/english/products_shortcut.jsp?pPRODUCT_TYPE=MotherBoard&pMODEL_NAME=AT7) if you're interested in seeing/reading more on it's specs. the memory specs are very interesting.

6 USB ports ?
4 of them using the Old and Unreliable 1.1 standard ?

Sorry But like the First few legacy Free boards and systems that came out.
This Is one I won’t be building systems on.

I do like the memory options.
Making it a very good Low speed starter board for an up grader.
However Chips support for the next generation?

This is very interesting http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/cool.gif

Rond36, you are correct on the SPDIF, but it is the fiber channel that carries this. It appears that the black and yellow are the center and rear channels.

As for the lack of PCI slots, with that much built-in audio, NIC, and USB, not a lot of need for any more. The curious thing here is, there is no modem. I thought the new standard for expansion card modems was the AMR. It also does not have this.
Seems to me if they are developing a new expansion inteface, they would be including it along with the PCI. Not like they'er short on space on this board.
Maybe the cards will still be attached to the backplates, but have a cable connection to a header on the mobo.
