I have a Packard Bell M7 - 306EDR and apparently the LCD screen has gone blank. However when I take a closer look I can still see the images, only with no backlighting. I conected an external monitor to see if that works and that's fine. So it's a toss up between the inverter & or the backlight.
Does anyone have any idea as to how I can check which hardware is the faulty one?

Check to make sure that the lid switch isn't stuck (there's usually a little button right near the hinges--like a small rubber piece). Have you tried powering off, removing the AC and removing the battery? Also, are you under warranty or not?

Surely there must be a PC geek or geekess out there some where WHO CAN HELP!
THERE MUST BE!
You've basically got it narrowed down...backlight or inverter and the thing is out of warranty...not much to do with it except pay a lot of money to have some one replace it or look on ebay for a replacement backlight. There isn't an 'easy' fix..except to plug in a monitor.

:D Hey thanks all for your time!
Even though I may have to go spend a bit of money now for repairs, at least my conscience is happy that I've tried by asking you professionals out there.
Well done! :D
