Dear All,

I have just inherrited a Lexmark X83 combined printer / scanner. I was keen to have it because of the scanner, I already have a printer.

However, got it wired up OK and the driver installation went fine. The scanner works like a dream but the printer is the problem. I have new ink cartridges installed but all the prints that I do come out 'faded' or 'half tone' and not crisp and clear. The test page prints perfect so I know the printer can produce good results. I have been through all the menu options and have most things set to 'auto' including the half tone slider but still no good.

I'm sure there is something that I have missed but for the life of me can't see it. Any one else had the same problems. Any help much appreciated.

Bram

Check the print preferences and make sure that the vibrance controls (if they exist) are set properly. Does it work properly on another computer?

Thanks for the quick reply mike.

Have done some further research to narrow down the problem

Word text document prints OK
Word document with inserted picture prints OK

The problem is with the printouts from an Access database

Will continue trying to narrow the problem down further

regards,

Bram

Further developments,

It seems to be printing in 'Quick' or 'Draft' mode only when using the access database output - Very weird as the print quality slider is set to 'max photo' All other printouts using other software are fine.

I had no trouble printing with the HP before switching to the Lexmark

Will keep on investigating

Thanks for the response everyone

Have now confirled the problem to be with MS Access as with the program we use we can print two types of output. One prints fine in high resolution glory the other prints in draft (irrespective of what the resolution slider says), so I guess the printer is somehow miss-understanding the output file from Access for the page that prints in Draft only.

I have contacted the people who wrote the program to see what they say. However, I do find it strange that one one page prints fine and the other not when both printed fine on the HP.
