With the new release of Intel Core 2 Duo, has anyone had the itching to upgrade their machine?

If so, which route are you taking? I say this because of AMD's recent price drop on their processor lines and the comming of their new processor.

Speaking for myslef, I have the itch now that everyone is becomming competitive again. But still not fully convienced that Intel would be completely better or not.

But still not fully convienced that Intel would be completely better or not.Intel may not be as popular around here ;) but they can still make awesome CPU's! Their new Core series is proof of that, and of their resolve to win back the performance crown in the only area that's important anymore: GAMING.

Back when Intel started the Pentium 4 line, gaming was not nearly as big as it is now. Over the lifecycle of the P4 core, gaming has become increasingly important, and Intel lost that battle long ago when AMD released the Athlon 64. Now that the design of the P4 can finally be laid to rest, Intel is focusing anew on future CPU ideas. Like native 64-bit processing and multi-core. This means that Intel and AMD are back on track creating much more identical CPU designs (which they haven't done since the days of the Pentium III and original Athlon). This also means that Intel and AMD are going to be competing neck and neck again.

Core is a revolution, not a P4 tweak. Those of you who have looked down upon the Pentium 4 (with some good reasons, I'll admit) it's high time you took Intel seriously again. Core is nothing like P4. Core is a much bigger diversion from P4 than AM2 is from 939. AMD has thus far made a tweak. Intel has made an entirely new microarchitecture.

Long live Intel, and fear Core 2...
