Hi, I am currently attempting to rebuild a computer for one of my younger cousins and let us say that it is not going to smoothly.

As of right now, I cannot even get it to POST or go into the BIOS setup with just the RAM, Mobo, CPU and PSU installed.

The current hardware setup includes an Intel Mobo (D865GVHZ) and Celeron D Processor(340), with 512mb of ram.

Any help in coaxing it to POST and enter the BIOS would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

You didn't mention any thing about video or keyboard...

Try clearing the CMOS with either the jumper or pull the battery...you may want to just go ahead and replace the battery, while your at it.

Whoops, built in video, non-usb keyboard, I will replace the battery, thanks.

Also, it has an onboard speaker, but when power is turned on, not so much as a peep out of it, does that imply something sinister?

Maybe...try resetting the CMOS first...and make sure that the board is fully powered...all connectors hooked up.

Problem fixed, turned out to be a bad stick of ram, thanks for the help.

I wonder why it wasn't giving warning beeps that RAM tests were failing?

That is odd. You might want to try taking out all the RAM and see if you can't get that onboard speaker to beep. If the speaker is dead, you can probably get an RMA replacement from Intel. That mobo should be well within the 3 year warranty.
