Well, I hope this isn't as difficult to troubleshoot as my IDE channel was, but it seems now I've got a problem on my hands involving the DVD drive. . .

Basically, it all started when I bought v.1 of GTA: SA. I bought it so I could mod things, because v.2 won't let you do...anything.

So I'm installing v1 and it cuts out half way through- the computer just restarted (or so I assumed because I was afk since it takes so long to install), and I log back on only to discover a "windows has recovered from a serious error" (which it says was caused a device driver- my video card- although I'm doubtful) notification.

I try to uninstall it. Another 2 errors come up, which apparently have happened with people uninstalling other games. I gave up on that and just deleted the whole directory.

Then I started reinstalling, this time hanging around and watching the whole thing. It got 9 bars (on the progress meter) in, before an error popped up and the computer crashed again.

Lather rinse repeat.

I cleaned the disc, wiped it off, check my video card and settings, declocked the CPU by 100mHz, and started again. I shut down all unnecessary programs, and began the install. This time it made it to 12 bars before doing the same thing, only it said it had encountered an error ( random 2 digit number x other 5-7 digits- ie. "15x705146" or something like that). . .

Then, earlier today, I tried ripping a CD. It was "White Zombie: Astro Creep 2000", and it did basically the same thing on the very first song. It plays ok, but it just won't rip/copy the CD.

So I tried a NiN halo 14, figuring the disc might've been copy protected or something fancy schmancy, and it did the exact same thing on song 3.

Hence, I've arrived at the conclusion something is wrong with my disc drive, or the driver, but I choose the former since it has a constant connection to a server with driver updates.

Any ideas?

Edit: found my screens

Edit 2: I didn't take a screeny when I got the first error mentioned, though.
