Install and run Process Explorer (http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.html) to see whether anything is using high %CPU.
Normally my PC %CPU usage would jump to 100% whilst a program [like Firefox] was opening, but it would only last 10 to 15 seconds.
You might discover that your CPU usage is NOT jumping up to 100%, suggesting that the desired program is NOT beginning to load.

That would suggest that either the registry settings needed to begin the load are failing...
Or else the exe file cannot be found or is faulty/corrupted.
I'd go with corrupted registry settings.

You could try using Regmon.exe (http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Regmon.html) to record the registry accesses as you try to load "Explorer.exe".
You might discover that a particular registry setting is continually being sought and not found.
N.B. There will probably be a RAPID stream of accesses, so be ready to click "File->Capture Events" to stop the capture [clear the tick].

Hmmm seems like a bunch of people blowing smoke out of their butts.... start with the simple, just check your Event Log. It may just tell you what is wrong, especially since you said you just reinstalled. This sounds to me like it is most likely your hard drive finding bad sectors and choking on them, I have seen this behavior frequently in such cases.

But I'm confused, you said you just reinstalled Windows? and then "did the repair?" Why would you reinstall and then do a repair, if you reinstalled what would need to be repaired?

Hmmm seems like a bunch of people blowing smoke out of their butts....
Unnecessary, and frankly unacceptable in these forums. We treat each other with respect here.

If you have an answer it will stand you in good stead.

ive done all types of scans
And there is some reason you won't tell us what they are?? Without information, we are blind...

Your HJT log looks okay...

If you installed Windows over itself and then did a Repair on the reinstalled Windows, it is likely that you made the problem worse... Windows tends to get ornery when you install it over itself... If you are running it in FAT32 this is even more true...

If you want us to review your process list, please post it in several posts if necessary... Many of us will not mess around links for illegible pictures from people we don't know...

Is that response acceptable to you mkaney??

Hmmm seems like a bunch of people blowing smoke out of their butts.... Hey, put the mirror down and read the thousands of posts and threads put up on this site :p

There is only ONE purpose that the moderators and members of this site have and that is to HELP users.

iamloco, I advise that you please try any suggestions that are put up by Sylvander and the moderators themselves. Even father time wouldn't be able to read all the solutions provided by these guys. Besides, the information you get can only help further advance your knowledge.

I'm sure in more ways than one you will eventually find an answer here. Good luck and hope things work out :D

It was not my intention to be rude, I tend to be a bit sarcastic so don't take it as an insult to the users or moderators who graciously contribute their time to help others. Budfred, I sense that you are not so different, based on the fact that you opened your response to the user with "And there is some reason you won't tell us what they are?? " LoL :)

My sarcasm was rooted in the fact that when particular computer issues become rampant (either factually or due to media attention) that it tends to influence the thinking of techs and users and they do not look at the whole picture. In the case of spyware, it also results in my web searches returning thousands upon thousands of results filled with posts which include endless pastes of logs from programs like Hijaack This.

Back to the problem, long pauses in Explorer, like that described, tend to be the result of either bad sectors, network issues (like missing attached drives), or sometimes extremely severe file fragmentation. Iamloco, if you are still looking for a solution, it would be helpful if you could be more specific about the details of your Windows reinstillation.

No thank you... I did not intend insult to anyone, while telling people that are trying to help that they are blowing smoke from an body orifice is clearly intended to insult... If you want to see my sarcastic comments, look at what I say to the SPAMmers here... That said, many of us help people that don't know how to proceed and that can be frustrating, but it is not a justification for sarcasm...

Sarcasm:
Cutting expression or remark.

Late Greek: sarcasmos, formed on: sarcazein = tear flesh, gnash the teeth, speak bitterly.

From a magnet on my refrigerator: "Tact is for people who aren't witty enough to be sarcastic."

In any case, all sarcasm aside, I was clearly trying to make nice in my last message, and offer more assistance to the user. If people would rather continue on with this and not either transcend or at least move past my remark, I will be happy to move along and make a contribution somewhere else.

Making nice is good; offering assistance - we need all we can get.

Please stick around and give us more of those. :D

I would have been happy to move on from your last response if you didn't make a point of trying to make your behavior okay by accusing me of the same behavior... I would still be willing to move on if you could avoid embedding a new insult into your comments... If you can't, making your "contribution" elsewhere may be the way to go...

I just spent a good amount of time posting a message on another thread trying to help a user, in invite you to look at it here.

http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?t=48765

However, I think that will be my last post on your board. I did not embed another insult in my last message, none whatsoever. I mentioned my refrigerator magnet, because I think it is funny. Although my initial posting could be interpreted as rude, and I apologized for that, my second and third messages were an attempt to be friendly and explain myself. Everyone else has been cool about this except for, ironically, the moderator. So, since we're dwelling, let's go back over something.

"And there is some reason you won't tell us what they are?? " is clearly sarcastic. Any logical person would understand that there is no reason that the user would not tell you what scans he ran, and would therefore understand that this is a sarcastic question. A non sarcastic question would be worded "What tests, specifically did you run?" In addition, your comment "Is that response acceptable to you mkaney??" is totally sarcastic. You sir, are a hypocrite.

I can clearly see that your personality will not allow you to accept this, but I suggest you solicit objective opinions if you disagree. Frankly, my inital rudeness was really not that big of a deal, especially considering that I did give advice in the message, and I was in no way being rude to the user themselves. Anyway, I made an effort, as illustrated by my responses and by the other thread I mentioned up top. You may or may not be blowing smoke out of your butt, but clearly you have a stick up it. If you feel like proving otherwise, I welcome your response or your email. Perhaps we just got off to a bad start, it happens. Otherwise, I apologize for wasting your time and I will avoid your site. I urge your to read my response to the other thread prior to writing your response.

Hey, a butterfly just flew in the window, and fluttered round the room. :)

With a little bit of arm-waving and an open window he fluttered on his way.

Didn't say anything sarcastic while he was here, but what the heck even if he did. :D
S'not the end of the world is it?

Back to business.

1. You're just the kind of person we need here at the PC Guide.

Why's that?

2. Because you give a **** for one.

3. Because you're imperfect like everone else...

Except me that is.
It's well known and accepted around here that I...
Am...
God's gift to the universe.

Just ask my wife...she knows. :D

But I get bored with being perfect, so every now and then I [like you] like to simulate a personality flaw.
Just to make things intertesting. :D
