"Disk Editor" on the "Emergency Boot CD" [EBCD] reported finding the following orphaned directory:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Stationery
It gave the DOS short name version of this.
"MS Scandisk" on the EBCD had also reported finding a long filename on C: that it couldn't fix and said to scandisk within Windows.
When I tried that it said it couldn't scan with Windows running and would do it at the next boot.
When it scanned [Properties->Tools->Error Checking (fix problems, recover clusters)] at the next boot it caused terrible problems that took me a lot of work to recover.
chkdsk is reporting no problems on C:
The folder appears ok in Windows. :confused:
Any ideas?
