If one changes the dns search order will it tell the computer where the dns server is located? This is the only info I was given. I appreciate any help.

The server is located by the IP address, the IP address is the location. Changing the search order will simply tell your machine which one to try first.

There are some caveats to the search order however, There was a bug in windows 2000 and XP when you use DHCP that the search order was reversed, also a common issue is when the first DNS server is down and it polls the second one it caches the server IP address and will not try the first again till the cache is cleared or the 2nd DNS server goes down. What specific issue brings you to this question?
