I have 2 computers.I have Juno dial up.Both worked fine, but when I upgraded the WIN98 to WIN98SE,I couldn"t visit web sites anymore. One computer works fine(WIN ME OS),but the other(WIN98SE OS)gets/sends email and will connect to the Internet, but can't visit any Web sites, message comes up:"Web page can't be displayed". I switch the phone line between the two manually.I matched all the settings between the computers, didn't help.Computer that works has intenal modem, the other that doesn't has external modem.I view the logs of both during a session, and it seems the good one sets up Protocol, compression and error control , the other doesn't.
I understand the modem initialization string may be the problem, or WINSOK.
Tapi32.DLL file or Ichelp.dll files may be missing,or damaged. Both connect to the Internet, so when i "ping", 4 packets are sent but none received-100%loss on both I don't know why? Because both connect to Internet, but one can visit web sites and the oother can't. Any suggestions?
