I have a coworkers Hp pavillion notebook that she wants to upgrade to Windows XP, she has celeron processor, 4.0g hardrive and only 32mb of ram, would I be able to upgrade the memory or processor to put XP on this notebook or would it be better just to advise her to buy a new laptop or just run win 98 on it ?, thnks

That HP notebook does not even get close to XP requirements, and Windows 98 is no longer supported by Microsoft.
It barely meets absolute minimum requirements for loading modern Linux distros like Ubuntu or MEPIS only with 32MB more RAM. It might run PuppyLinux or DSLinux OK but would have to check minimum RAM for that.

You should check with HP first. Many PC's of that vintage won't run XP w/o a bios upgrade.

All in all even if you up the RAM and XP will work it will run like a dog......

Your best bet...tell her that there is a nice little seacoast villiage in Florida that a lot of laptops of that vintage have moved to and help her look for a new one. It is two steps up from a claytablet...one step up being a 486, amber screen laptop that I just saw on ebay, last week...

Even if you can find RAM for it, it will probably cost an arm and a leg for another 32 MB...
