Hi,

I left my pc on last night downloading updates for my games, this morning i had to restart my pc cause my internet wasnt working (rubbish ISP), and when i restarted my pc, the first thing that happened was i got an message saying "CPU fan error, press F1 to continue". So i pressed F1 and the pc started like normal. But when i got to my log-in screen, i put in my password but the pc froze.

So i restarted my pc again but i didnt get the message but it froze on the log-in screen again. On the third try, i finialy got logged in and everything is working like normal.

But i was wondering why this happened? Could it have been cause i left it going all night and it just overloaded it self (allthough it has never happened before) or could my fan be blocked with something...

I only like to open my pc up is there is nothing else i can do (allways think i will break it :p) but if its the only option then i will do it...

Thanks in advance,
Dave

Boot the system and enter the bios
look for the hardware monitor section and check the cpu fan speed

if all looks OK there.
Then it is time to open the case and check the cpu fan
Look for dust bunnies blocking the fan blades or plugging the heatsink fins

Yes it is Very important to get to the reason for the warning error message

Why is the system locking?
It may have crashed during the night because of a fan problem and the system shut down .
To protect the cpu ..

That little fan can save you a bunch of $$ or cost you the same amount of $$$

That depends on your computer. We'll need a lot more details about your system in general. For a standard mobo, entering the BIOS is done by pressing the Delete key during/just after the POST. But if you have no clue how to "enter the BIOS" then I'm guessing this is an OEM machine, right?

I will try and enter the BIOS how you said.

Edit:

Ok so i found where i needed to go and my fan speed was going at between 2789 - 2860 RPM...

And what is your CPU temp? Other temps?

Lol, i dont think my pc has been restarted so many times in one day :p

But anyway, my CPU temp is running at 63/64 °C and my MB temp is running at a solid 30 °C...

That is getting a bit on the high side, so I tend to believe the fan warning...

Open the case up, and see if the fan is actually spinning.

If it is, place a small household fan blowing into the case and see if the temperatures go down.

If it isn't, then shut down that computer and get a replacement fan...

Ok cool, ill do that. If it comes down to it and i need to get a new fan, is getting one for the correct socket the only thing you need to worry about?
