This is my brothers computer so i don't have all the details.
But from what I hear this has been happening constantly and now more frequently.
At random intervals regardless of what he is doing (Gaming, surfing, idling even) the PC will seem to just shutdown. But not shutdown as in power down.
The fans are still running the lights are on but nobodies home so to speak. There's nothing he can, the screen is black and it may as well have been a shutdown.
He thinks it's the processor or PSU but I'm not sure if there could be another cause.

It isn't likely to be the processor...

Video card, power supply or just a general heat related problem.

We need more details.

Using Windows XP.
Tried using a another video card and same problems.
Sometimes the CD Rom drive doesn't show up on My Computer and nothing can be read.
On very rare occasions he'll get the stop code:
"STOP 0x0000007E"
but he says that he hasn't updated windows in ages.
Sufficient HDD space left as well.
Ram, unsure. Think he'll try that soon.

That error seems to be RAM or driver problems...

But the other stuff really does seem to be heat realted.

Open the case and give it a good cleaning, set up a small household fan to blow into the computer and see if that helps. If it does, we'll need to figure out how to improve the cooling in that machine.

Don't know how's he's testing it but he says that his PC doesn't overheat.
Either that or he's just measuring Processor and motherboard temp.
