Welcome to Pc Guide

If you do not have any open/free drive bays in your system case.
Then you need to look at what you have for ports available.
Does your system have an open expansion slot? ( PCI or ISA)
An open slot would be required to install a SCSI controller ..

Do have USB or Fire-wire support ?

For a description of SCSI check out the link below.

To use any of the external options for cd-rw you will be finding the price somewhat higher for the devices.
I haven’t worked with any of the USB cd-rw drives so someone else will have to answer your questions on those.

I can tell you about the SCSI drives.
First is the price. They are more expensive.
In many cases they are fast. And More reliable.
I have seen Much better results using them. ( fewer corrupted cd’s )

Why not just get a CD/RW that can be used as a cd rom? CompUSA has a TDK on sale right now for $59.95 after rebate and sale price.

I'm using an NEC 7500A as a CD-ROM/CD-RW. Works for me.
