Hello :)

I would like some advice please as i wish to buy a notebook and im not sure which one is best for me. I live in Spain so i will buy from Dell online, i use the computer for the broadband internet, instant messanging, skype, cd's / dvd's, playing games, scanning/printing, creating word documents for our business etc. so i don't need a top of the range but i just don't know which to buy. I have looked for guidance on the Dell website and other places but i just get confused with computer jargon! I will need to have built in internet. If anyone can help me then i would be so grateful. If Dell is not the best option for me then what is? Thank you x

Dell tends to be spotty and their consumer support has really suffered.

Three laptop brands that are REALLY good:
IBM
Toshiba
Acer

IBM (Lenovo) is high quality.
Toshiba makes their own, great mid priced laptops at reasonable prices.
Acer makes tremendous laptops for the money. Low price but high performance.

Thank you i will look into those other brands. Do you recommend any particular model for me? Sorry, i just really do not know what to look out for! Is the wireless internet called WIFI? Does it automatically work to pick up signals for internet when i am traveling around? Thanks x

WiFi is wireless enabled.
It does connect but be aware the connection may be free or may require a passphrase to connect to the host wireless Access Point. Some WiFi Access Points are also paid services where you are charged a fee for access.

We would need to know what applications you are going to run and the amount you are willing to pay in order to recommend specific models. Do you do gaming, word processing, video editing, play DVDs or videos, get emails?

I wrote in my post above what i use the pc for and so i would use the laptop for the same things. I will spend up to 500 pound.
